major project: self evaluation

This major project has been a rather interesting but painful experience due to the amount of time that were given to us. I am not exactly in the position to complain due to the fact that I had extra time to complete the project but I believed that it was still not enough. When we were first given the idea, I decided to create a replica of the previous project that I did: Ashley's Paradox (PR3), which I had worked on continuously for 9 months back when I was in high school. The time was given back then was quite long and I was able to make a huge progress on that, due to me thinking too much of myself, I wasn't able to do much this time. The major project is called: S.kylar. S.kylar is a story about a 26 year old female who suffered from brain damage which was caused by the mysterious car accident that she was involved in on her 15th birthday. She then obtained the Dissociative Identity Disorder condition as well as Capgras Delusion due to the brain damage.

S.kylar is a rather complex character, creating her from scratch is a rather hard job to do, which is why drawing her and creating her background story from scratch is confusing. I, personally have not met someone who has Dissociative Identity Disorder as well as Capgras Delusion, but only heard about it, it is extremely hard to imagine what goes on in their heads.

I didn't manage to complete S.kylar in a full colour as well as full body due to my lack of time and devices to work on for most of the time while I was working on the project. S.kylar gets more and more mysterious while I was working on her character design development.

I wanted to make sure she could show both combination of her original personality as well as her current, basically a before and after sequence of character development.

After her character design work, I started working on the grayscale thumbnails:

Grayscale thumbnails aren't exactly my strong suit yet but I do love working on them. The top picture on the panel shows the grayscale thumbnail version of the environment art, I kept it simple to practically show a tornado is about to hit the city that Skylar resides in as well as showing the message that a younger version of Skylar is looking at the tornado instead of her original 26 year old self, showcasing that it is a vision/imagination instead of reality. As for the picture on the second panel, I started toying with the colour balance and hue and saturations, basically using the colour bashing method to colour the picture instead of painting it with the original brush, this method was taught by my art teacher which I had a couple months ago. It is rather easy and complex at the same time, due to the fact that I didn't exactly have much time, I was only able to complete a brief colour bashed image of how it should look like.

I started working on te script, the script takes time to construct due to lack of ideas most of the time. I wrote some of them at the start of the major project and at the end of the entire project due to the reason that I felt that the character itself would change over the time while I am developing her, as I mentioned that she is a rather complex character and needs a lot of brainstorming for it.

Overall, I believe that I could do much better than I did for this and I do look forward to continue this project outside of the academics. Projects like these improves my creative skills and I am extremely interested to see where this project is able to lead me to.
